The 3rd annual Walking Festival is being held in Castlegregory, on the Dingle Peninsula on

28/29 September 2013

The mountains, Atlantic cliffs and seaside areas of the Dingle Peninsula offer some of the best walking in Ireland set in a location of stunning scenery from deserted golden strands to one of Ireland’s highest and most historic summits, all presented in a landscape of Irish language, tradition and welcome.

Dingle Hillwalking Club in association with Castlegregory Community Council provide the opportunity for walkers of all abilities from casual to seasoned trekkers to join guided walks on this exciting weekend.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday 28-29 September 2013, each day offers either an easy, moderate or strenuous route on coastal cliffs, open upland, mountain ridges and peaks.

Volunteer guides who are experienced members of Dingle Hillwalking Club will accompany each walk contributing their local knowledge and enthusiasm.

“Easy” grade walks use ancient bog roads and tracks to access isolated cliff-tops frequented by kestrels, fulmars and choughs and a second walk along an old travellers track through a mountain pass. “Moderate” grade walks combine coastal cliff-top and open mountain upland, and a route which follows a mountain stream climbing into the heart of the Brandon range. The “strenuous” routes tackle Mt Brandon via the Pilgrims Path, high ridges and mountain lakes, and a route to the highest point in the Slieve Mish Mountains via Ireland’s highest promontory fort.

Both days will be a pleasure for walkers who are keen to experience some of the natural history, geology and unspoilt beauty of the Dingle Peninsula. To find more details about the walks, registration form, where to stay and information about what to bring, please click on the highlighted links.
